1.THE RAILWAY PAVED THE WAY

Urmston has the railway to thank for its ever-growing popularity. It acted as a catalyst back in 1873 when it transformed the town into a great place to live for the middle classes. Before this it was just a small farming community, whereas now it’s a booming area of Trafford with plenty to offer.

Plus, there’s even an homage to the railway with the Urmston and District Model Engineering Society in Flixton running a regular miniature railway in Abbotsfield Park since 1948. It’s one of the largest elevated tracks in the whole of the country. Now, Urmston has great rail and road connections to Manchester, taking an average of 30 minutes on the train and just over 20 minutes to drive to the centre of Manchester town.

2. THERE’S PLENTY TO DO RIGHT ON YOUR DOORSTEP

With Chill Factore, Legoland and Sea Life just around the corner in Stretford, residents are never short of things to do with the family over the weekend. Whether you want a day

mooching around the shops, a fun adventure with the kids or something to fill a rainy day, there’s definitely something for everyone to enjoy. If golf is more your thing, head over to Davyhulme Park Golf Club for an afternoon around the course, it’s considered by many as Manchester’s hidden gem...

3. GREEN OPTIONS

With three tennis courts, a bowling green and play areas for kids, Abbotsfield Park is the place to go on a sunny afternoon. Plus, there’s the miniature railway which is always a crowd pleaser.

And there’s more, head to Davyhulme Park where you’ll enjoy plenty of open green space, play areas, tennis courts, picnic spots… and better still it’s walking distance from a lot of the surrounding residential properties.

4. A BOOMING SOCIAL SCENE

Last year, Urmston was praised for its flourishing independent restaurants and bars, mimicking nearby town Altrincham’s success.

With a food hall on the way (Market 41) and a new wave of unique restaurants settling in this area, young professionals and families alike are flocking to the area to enjoy the blossoming social scenes. There’s Craft Brewtique, a craft beer bottle shop on Flixton Road, the wine bar, Kelder, Get Chucked and Kin Bakehouse and Kitchen - so locals really do have the world on their plate.

5. A WIDE RANGE OF PROPERTIES ON THE MARKET

With an average house price at £280,042 (similar to surrounding areas such as Flixton and Davyhulme) it’s cheaper than Trafford next door.

Most of the houses in the area are semi-detached, but there are also a multitude of terraced homes that are perfect for first-time buyers or for people wanting a bit more space for a growing family. Detached homes go for an average of £412,786. For more information on where’s best to buy for your property needs contact the local experts at Trading Places on 0161 747 0022.
